About Us
The Water Valley Public Library is one of several library service points governed by the Parkland Regional Library Board. More information about Parkland Regional Library and its relationship with library service points (outlet libraries) is available on the Parkland Regional Library website.
The Water Valley Community Library had its early beginning in the Bituma School established by local mothers in the 1920s. The library is presently housed in a portion of the old school building on the southwest corner of the main intersection in Water Valley. In 1998, local residents Terry Smith and Maureen Warmington volunteered to take charge of the library after it became the responsibility of the Water Valley Community Association. They established regular hours and hired the first paid staff.
Originally, the Water Valley library collection was made up of books printed for servicemen after the Great War. It still depends heavily on donations from local residents along with an annual budget from the local recreation board. Today, Water Valley has an excellent collection of art books, reflecting the artistic talents of the community.
